Key Dates for Business

Most tax returns are due on 31 October and 15 May each year following the end of the previous financial year. If you lodge your tax return through a registered tax agent you generally have an extension to 15 May. You will need to submit your tax return by 31 October if you don’t lodge it through a registered tax agent.

 

 31 October Tax returns for all entities if you hasn’t lodged one or more previous tax returns.
You are not registered with a tax agent.
 15 January Tax return for taxable large/medium entities(other than individuals) e.g. entities that earned more than $10 million in its most recent tax return and was not required to lodge a return earlier
 28 February Tax return for non-taxable large/medium entities as per the latest year lodged (other than individuals) e.g. entities that did not pay tax in the prior year and earned more than $10 million in the previous income year.
Tax returns for new registrant (taxable and non-taxable) large/medium entities (other than individuals) i.e. newly established entities that earned more than $10 million in the previous year.
 31 March Tax return for companies and super funds with total income in excess of $2 million in the latest year lodged
Tax return for individuals and trusts whose latest return resulted in a tax liability of $20,000 or more, excluding large/medium trusts.
 15 May Tax returns for all other entities that did not have to lodge earlier , and are not eligible for the 5 June 2016 concession.
 5 June Tax returns due for individuals and trusts with a lodgment end date of 15 May 2016 provided they also pay any liability due by this date.

 Due Dates for Lodging Your BAS

Monthly reporting

 The due date for your monthly BAS is usually on the 21st day of the following month. If the due date is on a weekend or public holiday, you can lodge your form and make any payment due on the next business day.

 Due Dates for Lodgments of Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT)

The FBT year is from 1 April to 31 March. If you pay FBT by instalments, lodge all of your BASs for the FBT year ending 31 March, including the March quarter, before lodging your annual FBT return
